What to Do When You Get Engaged

Your first steps after the proposal without the overwhelm.

You just got engaged, congratulations! This is such a beautiful, exciting moment in your life, and if you’re feeling a mix of joy, love, and a tiny bit of “what do we do now?” - you’re not alone.

Before you jump into guest lists or Pinterest boards, take a breath. Here’s what I recommend as your first three steps after getting engaged:

1. Enjoy being engaged

There’s no need to rush. Soak it all in. The excitement, the love, the butterflies. Whether you keep it to yourselves for a day or tell your friends and family right away, let yourselves just be in the moment. Engagement isn’t just the lead-up to the wedding – it’s a chapter all on its own.

2. Celebrate

Throw a party, go out for dinner, book a photoshoot, pop a bottle of bubbles – whatever feels like “you.” This is a huge milestone in your relationship, and it deserves celebrating! There will be plenty of time to plan the logistics, but for now, just enjoy each other and the commitment you’ve made.

3. Get clear on your wedding vision together

Once the initial excitement has settled, it’s time for a little quality time and some meaningful conversation. I’ve created a FREE resource to help you do exactly that. A list of thoughtful questions you and your partner can go through together (perhaps on a date night!) to shape your wedding vision.

These questions will help you:

  • Get on the same page about the kind of wedding you both want

  • Figure out what you need to organise

  • Understand what to include in your budget

  • Feel confident and clear before diving into the planning process

You don’t need to have all the answers right away but this is the perfect place to start.
